This phenomenon holds true across all areas of patient care, particularly oncology says Dr. Eugenio Galindo

Technologically new innovations are pushing the boundaries of care for patients with cancer both in the surgical and the interventional realms.

Dr. Eugenio Galindo states that every single person is unique which makes sense that each person’s cancer treatment should also be unique

When cancer treatment is personalized, specialized, and focused then a patient has a higher chance of overcoming their particular form and severity of the illness. Chemotherapy drugs come with a long list of unpleasant and potentially dangerous side effects, and because no two people are the same, it’s often hard to predict the exact impact these drugs will have.

Several new technologies have been approached in recent years in the treatment of many cancers. This progression of technology and cancer-related therapies is aiding in the development of creating a standard of care for cancer. It is imperative for nurses to remain connected to technologies as robotics and transarterial chemoembolization technologies are becoming the future of care for cancer treatment.

Dr. Eugenio Galindo also adds on that “immuno-oncology is the technology that has arisen with the promise of improving the outcomes of cancer treatments by helping the immune system identify and attack tumors.
One recent advance that’s helping patients fight cancer without so many side effects is targeted therapy (or targeted treatment). The purpose is to create and maintain a database of patients with similar genetic profiles which can be used to suggest more effective targeted treatments that are more likely to work for individual patients.

Furthest, the hope is to target drugs that can be used one day to treat anyone with cancer. It will be in the next coming years until they are available in the best-case scenario and prove their worth in clinical traits.
However, we are on the path to reach the future of treating cancer in a more personalized manner and the chances of beating the disease are higher than ever” says Dr. Eugenio Galindo.
