No, the DGT will not veto cars with a B label in the Low Emission Zones of 2023

By January 1, 2023, at the latest, all Spanish municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, in addition to island territories, will have to have a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) . And for this, the DGT has designed a common indication , in the form of a vertical sign , to signal these types of areas restricted to traffic.

In the LEZs, the access of cars and vehicles will be discriminated by environmental label . Thus, in the lower area of this vertical sign, which was defined in June 2021, it is indicated "except authorized vehicles", adding the pictogram of different badges.

In this example provided by the DGT, cars with label B were left out , but this does not mean that cars with this label will be banned from driving.

The municipalities will determine which vehicles they veto, as is already the case in activated LEZs

As detailed by Traffic when this sign was released, it informs of the prohibited entry to motor vehicles, except those that have the environmental badge indicated by the local entity at the bottom of the sign.

In other words, the signal published by the DGT is a mere example and it will be the city councils of these municipalities that must have an ZBE that will decide which cars discriminate . And those with label B do not necessarily have to be included.

We will therefore have a heterogeneous map of areas restricted to traffic, something that in fact already happens with the implemented and active LEZs. In total, almost 150 municipalities must apply this measure.

For example, the Barcelona ZBE , which includes the entire city and part of the periphery and is subject to hours and days of the week, includes in its signal that indicates the ZBE both for cars with ECO and ZERO labels and with B and C labels. among its exceptions. In other words, it only restricts access to those who do not have a badge .

The city council had foreseen to apply the veto this 2022 to cars of label B (with the exception of the residents), but finally it will not do it . And at the moment there is no definitive date, since the calendar will be modulated "based on the results and the evolution of air quality levels", as indicated in the Metropolitan Plan for Urban Mobility (PMMU) 2019- 2024.

16

17

18

19

On the other hand, in Madrid there are two active ZBE : the one for Special Protection of the Central District and the one for Plaza Elíptica . The first prohibits the circulation of all cars that are not ZERO or ECO and the second only to those without a label , so that both B and C can circulate.

20

And the Seville LEZ also discriminates only against unlabeled vehicles , in addition to being non-permanent and subject to high pollution episodes.

Ultimately, the councils will design how they consider their ZBE and which cars and vehicles restrict traffic in them and on what terms, and may or may not apply the veto to B-label cars and vehicles .

A must-have reinvention? Shell begins to convert its gas stations into charging centers for electric cars

Recently an USA city with a curious name became known for being the first to prohibit the construction of new gas stations in the country. Although the beginning of the end of combustion engines is approaching with leaden feet, we are seeing changes that a decade ago were unthinkable.

Like the oil giant Shell has started to turn its gas stations into 'electric vehicle centers' with charging stations , starting with London.

100% renewable energy to meet objectives

As explained by the oil company, it will open its first charging station for electric cars at the beginning of this year where there used to be a gas station in central London. Specifically in Fulham, this center will have 10 superfast charging points of 175 kW .

6

7

To make the users wait while their vehicles are connected to the network, there will be a seating area and a store with drinks and food.

The energy will come from the electricity of the solar panels integrated in the roof, and ensures that it will be 100% renewable. And it is better for it, because in 2021 Shell became the first company condemned to reduce its emissions for contributing to climate change.

The Hague court ruled in May that it must reduce its CO₂ emissions by 45% by the end of 2030 compared to 2019 levels.

The truth is that restoration is a business that oil companies look at with ever better eyes. The volatile oil market and increasingly tough legislation on fossil fuels are pushing the oil and gas giants to reinvent themselves as their production declines.

17

This is the case of the fifth largest international oil company in the world, BP: in 2019 alone it sold 150 million cups of coffee , a profitable product that does not lose followers and that could be a great support for the company.

Renewable electricity, the war to see who deploys more charging points for electric cars and investment in biofuels are some of the formulas for survival.

Others, like Australian oil company BHP, are looking for raw materials to make batteries with Tesla.

ProAntioquia statement on the statements of Mayor Daniel Quintero

"The lie hurts the city, the dignity of Medellin, ignores the horror story we suffered and which we managed to overcome with the sum of efforts, capabilities, leadership, resources, kindness and solidarity," says the foundation.

This says the statement:

"From a thousand lies a single truth will not be built."

ProAntioquia statement on the statements of Mayor Daniel Quintero.

Medellín and Antioquia have reached important levels of development, well-being and progress due to the joint historical work between the state, business, academia and the social sector. Respect for differences has been based on argumentation, constructive and respectful dialogue and with the truth.

Spreading a narrative with falsehoods and deceptions, with the sole purpose of benefiting one's own agenda and not for the common good, is very dangerous because it destroys social capital and fractures the necessary trust in which progress, democracy and the entire society lose. .

Compare Antioquia companies, which have worked with commitment for the region and the country, concerned about the solution to social challenges, interested in entrepreneurship, youth, culture and peace issues, which today generate more than 100,000 direct jobs and Hundreds of thousands more indirect ones, which translate into opportunities and progress for Antioquenian and Colombian families, with a cartel, is a lack of respect for employees, shareholders, suppliers and customers, as well as nonsense and baseness.

The lie hurts the city, the dignity of Medellin, ignores the horror story we suffered and from which we managed to overcome with the sum of efforts, capacities, leadership, resources, kindness and solidarity. With teamwork, with respect and trust, we managed to overcome the uncertain and fearful times in which violence plunged us. It has been due to the commitment of the institutions, the business community, the NGOs and the citizens that we have recovered from adversity and we continue to move forward.

We still have immense challenges to retake and build the splendor of Medellín and Antioquia, but these must be faced with height, recognize the progress and work to continue advancing.

21

Citizens must adopt a critical attitude about what they hear, understand the reality based on facts, figures, actions and look closely at the history of the city. Accomplishments speak. You must avoid the contagion of a narrative with disqualifying phrases and far from the truth. Many times those who designate themselves as saviors are really destroyers of democracy and public trust.

22

Companies such as Grupo Sura, Grupo Nutresa and Grupo Argos have the highest business, environmental, social, labor and cultural standards. Antioquia is proud of them and of many others who contribute, day by day, to achieving what we are, and who will also be the foundations of the future.

We join the voices of those who raise the urgent need to rescue trust, appeal to civic spirit and the collective construction of social capital.

On January 29, registrations will open so that applicants to the Casa de Nariño formally register for the day that will have its first round on May 29. Likewise, the registration of ballots for the presidential will be enabled until March 29, if citizens want to change their polling place or have never registered their document.

With this decision of the Registrar's Office, the six presidential candidates have everything ready to be in the race and to define if they will finally be in the consultations of the Centro Esperanza Coalition, Team for Colombia and the Historical Pact. For now, the only one who has said that he will go alone to the end is Rodolfo Hernández, arguing that he will not make alliances because he hopes to win in the first round.

Robert Durst: American millionaire convicted of killing his best friend 22 years ago dies in prison

American millionaire Robert Dust, sentenced to life in prison for murder, died in prison at the age of 78, his lawyer reported Monday.

Durst died in a California jail after pleading guilty last September to killing her friend and confidant Susan Berman in 2000.

As established in the trial, the tycoon killed her to prevent her from speaking to the police about the disappearance of his wife, which occurred in 1982.

Attorney Chip Lewis confirmed that Durst died at San Joaquin General Hospital. He was serving a sentence in the Stockton, California jail.

Lewis said the death was from "natural causes" and said Durst suffered from bladder cancer, in addition to other diseases.

Convicted murderer

Durst's friend and spokesperson Susan Berman was found shot to the head at her Beverly Hills home in 2000.

Durst was convicted of " premeditated murder " to prevent Berman from telling police about the whereabouts of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, who disappeared in 1982.

McCormack's body was never found.

Durst was arrested in 2015 after starring in a crime documentary series on HBO called The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst in which, in apparent oversight, you could hear him muttering how he recognized the murders.

Apparently unaware that the microphone he was wearing was connected, Durst was recorded telling himself that he had "killed them all " shortly after being questioned during an interview for the documentary.

Hours before the last episode aired, authorities arrested Durst in New Orleans.

The clip from the documentary where he allegedly acknowledged the crimes was used as evidence during the trial.

Investigators said Durst was a "narcissistic psychopath."

The victims

Susan Berman was a crime writer and Durst's best friend. In fact, he acted as his spokesperson when the businessman became a suspect in the disappearance of his wife.

In one of the trial sessions, Durst's then-attorney, Dick DeGuerin, objected that the lawyers also showed excerpts from the 2010 film All Good Things , based on their marriage and starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst.

The film was directed by the same filmmaker who years later would make the aforementioned HBO documentary, Andrew Jarecki, and describes the life of the tycoon, showing him as a murderer .

Durst's first wife, Kathleen McCormack, is believed to have also died.

McCormack's family had asked for Durst to be prosecuted for his disappearance.

"The Los Angeles court system has finally served the Berman family. Now is the time for the Westchester family to do the same for the McCormack family," Durst's wife's family said in September 2021.

https://justbizworld.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-incredible-rescue-of-pilot-seconds.html

Investigators believe Durst killed three people in total.

The third alleged victim was a neighbor of the mogul, Morris Black, who discovered Durst's identity while in hiding in Texas in 2001.

Durst was acquitted of murdering him after claiming he killed him in self-defense.

The millionaire was a member of one of the richest and most powerful real estate dynasties in New York.

What is the latest recommendation on face masks?

It depends on your situation, but health authorities say that you should cover your nose and mouth, and adjust so that there are no gaps on the sides of your face.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommends opting for masks with two or more layers and with a wire that fits over the nose to prevent air from escaping over the top. . They suggest holding it up to the light to verify that it blocks your path, which means the fabric is likely to leak more particles.

If you want additional protection, experts suggest using two masks or pairing them with an adapter to ensure there are no gaps.

Finding a chinstrap that is comfortable is also important to ensure that it is actually worn, said Laura Kwong, an associate professor of environmental health sciences at the University of California, Berkeley.

If availability is available, you can opt for disposable N95 masks for personal use, the CDC noted in an update to its recommendations. This model is considered the most effective in blocking virus particles. The agency previously said they should be reserved for health workers, but the supply has since increased.

Alternatives such as transparent or fabric masks with plastic panels on the front are recommended for people with hearing problems. Health authorities say that transparent medical masks should be prioritized for health personnel and for patients who need them.

Trump has another Republican challenger, Mark Sanford

WASHINGTON, USA (AFP) - Former Republican Governor Mark Sanford today announced his participation in his party's presidential nomination race as part of a long-term challenge to President Donald Trump. .
Sanford, who would be the third Republican to submit a main offer against Trump, said he had decided to run because of the "impressive" debt and deficit accumulated during his presidency.
Mark Sanford
"I think that as a Republican party we have lost our way," he said in an interview for "Fox News Today".

"The president has said he is the king of debt and has a level of familiarity and comfort with the debt that, in my opinion, is finally leading us in the wrong direction."
Sanford's decision came as Republican officials in some states, including South Carolina, Nevada and Arizona, plan to cancel their 2020 primary.

When asked if he really believed he could defeat Trump, Sanford replied, "I say you never know."
"I list my goals, my main objectives are to say that we must force ourselves or try to create a conversation about what we do not talk about in this presidential cycle," he said.

"What is missing in this debate is a sincere and real conversation about the debt and deficits of public spending".

Sanford was governor of South Carolina from 2003 to 2011 and served two terms in the House of Representatives, but lost a party primary in 2018.
Trump is also facing Republican nomination Joe Walsh, a former Tea Party firefighter who served a single term in Congress, and William Weld, a former Massachusetts governor.

Amazon fires: Seven countries sign forest protection pact

Thousands of fires are ravaging the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil - the most intense blazes for almost a decade

amazon fires

Seven countries in South America have agreed on measures to protect the Amazon Basin from global concerns over massive fires in the world's largest rainforest.

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname have signed a pact establishing a disaster response network and satellite monitoring.

At a summit in Colombia, they also agreed to work on reforestation.
More than 80,000 fires have broken out in the Amazon jungle this year.

"This meeting will be a coordinating mechanism for the presidents who share this treasure: the Amazon," said Colombian President Iván Duque, who organized the summit in the city of Leticia.

At the same time, Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra said: "Goodwill is not enough anymore."
The seven nations also agreed to make greater efforts in education and to strengthen the role of Aboriginal communities.
Countries were represented in Leticia by presidents, vice-presidents and ministers.
Brazilian far-right president Jair Bolsonaro took part in a video link because he was preparing for an operation.

amazon fires 2019

What's the background to this?

The Amazon is a vital reservoir of carbon that slows global warming. 60% is in Brazil.

According to the country's National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), the number of fires between January and August 2019 is twice that of the same period last year.

President Bolsonaro has been strongly criticized nationally and internationally for failing to protect the region.
Environmentalists say their policies have led to an increase in fires this year and they have been encouraging farmers to clean up vast areas of the rainforest since their election last October.

Bolivia has also been affected by forest fires near its borders with Brazil and Paraguay.
At the same time, the leading group of the Brazilian meat export and agricultural companies has joined an environmental campaign calling for the end of deforestation on Amazonian public lands and demanding action by government.

Several international retailers have announced that they are suspending their purchases of Brazilian leather because of links between livestock and fires that devastate part of the Amazon rainforest.
